How to run a tax year (simple path)
- Sign in with your household email.
- On the Dashboard, open an existing engagement or click New engagement.
- Pick the person (taxpayer profile) and the tax year (for example 2025).
- Complete Intake — short questions about filing status, business, inventory, vehicles. Empty answers become open items.
- If you drive for business: open Mileage, add trips, look up the IRS standard mileage rate for that year, then generate a workpaper.
- If you sell goods: open COGS, enter beginning/ending inventory and purchases, then generate a workpaper.
- Check Open items and Workpapers. Export markdown to hand to commercial software or a preparer.
- For Iowa vs federal differences, use the Federal vs Iowa page — never assume Iowa matches federal.
Tips for family members
- You only see profiles you own or were granted access to.
- Do not invent missing numbers — leave blanks and use open items.
- Never backdate mileage logs or create fake receipts.
- Label reconstructed records as reconstructed in the Mileage form.
- When unsure, stop and ask the household admin or a paid preparer.
